The legend of "De Biggenboom" (pig tree), tells a story about a golden cup, stolen 1473 by Oldenburger  foot-soldiers from the church at Strackholt, a small traditional village in East Frisia. The excited pastor followed the thieves and was  belaboured. Befor he could  flee he cursed the soldiers an the place where they had pitched their camp.
However at this place (between Bagband und Strackholt), where once a mighty oak tree the drunken thieves gave shadow, since that day no more tree can grow prosperously.  Nowadays  an appel tree tries to grow  up there, but it  stays small, it looks miserable and  will be withered like all the other trees  before him.

At this particular place, a  memorial stone remembers on that incidence in the year 1473.

The landscape between the Ems and the Weser Rivers  is the homeland of the artists  by the Union of Professional Artists, East Frisia. We live at a charming landscape which is impressed of its wide variety and of its exciting, thrilling legends. Many of these legends were already published in various books. The ones which we selected are those which are not that well-known legends and those places which are almost forgotten in the area of  East Frisia. After our search we found a lot of dates, informations and anekdotes which each of us has taken as her/his individual theme for this project.
These  individual artistry adaptations of the legends,  histories,  personalties, landscapes and memorial buildings are the contents of this book...
